| ACCUEIL | Musculation : Le muscle grand dorsal |
|
The latissimus dorsi is the biggest muscle of the human body. It is large, triangular and is at the surface of the back. A developed dorsal muscle make a large ' V ' shaped form in the back . It is impressive. It is covered (in the middle of the back) by the lower part of the trapezius. The latissimus dorsi is attached to the seventh dorsal vertebra, up to the sacral vertebras and ends by a tendon on the humerus (bone of the arm), next to the tendon of the pectoralis.
The latissimus dorsi allows to pull the arm rearward (retroposition) and to bring it back inward (adduction). It also permits the internal rotation of the arm (rotator). It also takes part in the inhalation (inflate lungs) while raising the last ribs of the costal grill. © BODYPLANET 1998 - 2008
